Is that an invitation to a flame war? :)
Linux: it depends. If you're an administrator then it gives you the
flexibility you need. If you're a simple desktop user who doesn't care
about computers and just wants to get his work done then I think it
distracts you from work because it's not maintenance-free and offers
loads of options that complicate the search for the important settings
and a normal users doesn't care about these options (they just take up
time when reading through all of them).
This is a general observation I made with open-source projects. They
begin to implement everything on earth to suit everyone. In the end they
suit nobody because they do *everything*, but nothing *perfectly*.
That's because they lose focus on what they are initially intended to do.
I don't want to split this project. Please don't fork. I very much
prefer Robert's suggestion: create interoperable tools. That's like
having add-ons. But I'm not sure how well both tools integrate if you
separate them (strange sentence ;). In any case, I would be happy if it
can be disabled by unchecking a simple checkbox. It's not that I don't
see a need for billing. Maybe my project could even need this. Maybe
your work can be combined with that of Robert?
My main concern is that this project is *already* losing focus. People
start SVN integration, time estimates, billing, but at the same time the
main purpose of this ticket tracker (managing tickets!) is lacking
behind. It's an open-source project, yes. Everyone does what he
likes/needs the most. But sometimes you have to get things right before
you can go on with the next feature.
I will try to get my hands on the ticket part if nobody is against my
planned (minimalistic) changes. Any help is appreciated.
Bye,
Waldemar
